Freeville Community

Incorporated in 1887, the Village of Freeville (pop. 523) is part of the Town of Dryden, in Tompkins County, New York. As you will see, a lot is going on in Freeville (the only incorporated municipality in the nation with this name, by the way).

The village is on NYS Route 366 and is roughly equidistant from Cortland and Ithaca. The area is home to Cornell University, Ithaca College, Tompkins-Cortland Community College, and SUNY Cortland. The Cortland County – Tompkins County area is rural, beautiful, and great for nature enthusiasts because of its woods, hiking trails, creeks, apple orchards, and farms. Ithaca, known for its ravines and waterfalls, overlooks Cayuga Lake, one of New York’s five Finger Lakes. The countryside above these lakes is home to a number of highly regarded wineries.
